The Redwood Mountain Road Garlic to Strawberries. Wine to Artichokes.
22 miles of uniquely California road links Silicon Valley with Monterey Peninsula. Hwy 52 West rambles along side flower fields, nurseries, herb farms, wineries, up a mountain pass covered with redwoods. From a ledge on the Santa Cruz mountains the road descends to the Pajaro Valley and mouth of the Salinas River.
Along the Pass are a half dozen of family wineries, each with outstanding specialities. Fortino's Table Burgundy at Hecker Pass Winery, Merlot at Solis, and Chardonay at Sarah's are a few of the pleasing discoveries.
In a vast sea of thistles, sits the World Artichoke Center.
