After two decades of fighting oil companies about drilling off shore, environmentalists aroused awareness about the wonders of the Monterey Bay, its incredible canyons and environs. In 1992 the Sanctuary, which is like a park, was created. It is now protected by law, and administered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) |
Then in 1995 the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation was formed to educate the public about the extraordinary environment and resources of Monterey Bay. |
The Foundation is a new nonprofit organization to advance the understanding and protection of the marine Sanctuaries in California. |
As part of their mission, they have produced educational products. |

Monterey Bay Canyon emanates from the mouths of the Salinas and Pajaro Rivers at Moss Landing at mid point in the Bay's shorline. |
Working to create an identity for the Sanctuary, by developing education programs, they initiate grants that help achieve their mission. And, they are raising funds for their work. |
One of the ways they are doing that is with products which you can buy and help them with their important work: |
