Salmon River Spring Chinook and Summer Steelhead Dives
from Nat Pennington, Salmon River Restoration Council:

Fellow Fish Enthusiasts and a-fish-ionados- I am pleased to announce this years

Salmon River Cooperative Spring Chinook and Summer Steelhead Dives. This year’s event, now being called Spring Chinook Week, incorporates education, volunteerism, networking, fisheries restoration and lots of fun into one convenient package. Spring Chinook week will take place starting July 19th continuing through the 22nd. Meals will be provided during the dives by SRRC and Forest Service at the Forks of Salmon Community Club free of charge to divers and family, also camping will be provided at Nordheimer Campground.

On Friday the 22nd SRRC, and cooperators are hosting a educational event titled Jammin’ for the Salmon at Nordheimer Campground.

We will be accepting suggested donations of $10 per person and $5 per vehicle for the event and camping to help cover costs. We are also encouraging folks within the restoration community to perform or speak on stage in the afternoon or set up booths on the lawn.

Craft vendors are also encouraged to attend.

The Salmon River, a major tributary to the Klamath basin, hosts the largest wild population of Spring Chinook left in the Klamath basin.

The Klamath River basin historically had runs of between 650,000 and one Million Salmon annually, with Spring Chinook being the predominant run.

Currently the Salmon River Spring run varies between 200 and 1,400 Salmon.

A large portion of the Klamath Spring Run once spawned in the Klamath and its tributaries above the currently dammed area on the Oregon California border.

Come to the dives, do underwater networking while counting the last of the wild salmon, develop projects and learn from others while grooving to the sounds of Jammin’ for the Salmon. Most importantly help us bring attention to the plight of these once abundant fish.
