Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is a wonderland. A short hike through redwoods, along a babbling brook, arrives at Pfeiffer Falls. Trails Head Cafe river deck The Big Sur River meanders around in the Park through forests of ancient Redwoods and riparian woodlands. Many fine swimming holes can be found in this stretch of the River.

Some of the best trail heads of Big Sur's fabled hikes are at the Lodge. A popular hike through redwoods to Pfeiffer Falls begins at the Lodge. Close to the cottages is a nature interpretative center and historical museum.

The Pfeiffer Big Sur sister state park, Julia Pfeiffer Burns, is home to the only California waterfall that drops into the Pacific, and several idyllic redwood groves and ocean coves.
